About Special Touch Quartet

Special Touch Quartet has been performing around the Kansas City Metro area since October 2003. Many things about barbershop harmony resonate with us personally, and each of us has our own story about how we got involved.

Barb Patton - Lead

Barb has been a member of Sweet Adelines since 1982. She has been a member of the Kansas City Chorus since 1986. Barb is married to husband Mark and has 2 children, Brian and Emily and 3 grandchildren, Renae, Mackenzie and Lance. (Secret, baritone Stacy is married to Barb's son Brian and mother to beautiful granddaughters Renae and Mackenzie. Lance is the handsome son of daughter Emily.)

Ruth Anne Decker- Tenor

Ruth Anne first joined Sweet Adelines in 1987 after attending

chorus rehearsals with her mother since before she was even

born.  After a break for college and getting started in her career,

Ruth Anne joined the Kansas City Chorus in 1994 and has been

a member ever since.  Her love of quartet singing has resulted in her performing in several different quartets and octets over the years, but this Special Touch quartet has been especially rewarding.  She is married to Todd and has a 7 year-old daughter, Ashley.

Stacy Patton- Baritone

Stacy has been a Sweet Adeline and a member of the Kansas City Chorus since 1996. Stacy is married to husband Brian and has 2 daughters, Renae and Mackenzie. This is Stacy's first and only quartet and she is having a blast with this fun hobby! Stacy was introduced to barbershop through Barb. Stacy began dating Barb's son, Brian, in high school and was invited to a rehearsal one night. She has been hooked ever since. Two years later, the KC Chorus took a trip to Washington D.C. and it was there that Brian proposed to her while the chorus was supposedly "practicing" the song "When I Fall in Love." Sweet Adelines is such a big and important part of Stacy's life and she loves to share it with everyone!

Lori Carrender- Bass

Lori's first taste of barbershop came in July 2001 when she agreed to go to a Kansas City Chorus rehearsal with her Aunt Jeffi, who had just moved to the area and wanted to join a new chorus.  She had been exposed to barbershop as a girl when her parents and grandparents sang together in a mixed quartet but had no idea what a phenomenal organization Sweet Adelines was.  From the first sounds of ringing chords, she was hooked. She hurried up and learned all the music in time to compete with the chorus in Portland, Oregan.  Now eight years later, she serves as bass section leader and member of the music team of the Kansas City Chorus.  She is married to Brian and he has become the ultimate Sweet Adeline spouse, taking care of their two children, Benjamin and Sarah, when the "only one night a week" hobby turns into more.
